Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 11.56.20 AMIn November 1919, Walter applied to Port Melbourne Council for the combined position of Dog Registration Officer, Meter Reader and Assistant Collector for Electric Supply. Over 100 applications were received*.

Prior to the war he had worked for Mr J Esson of Bay Street and after returning from active service he was on the staff of the State Recruiting Committee as an organiser through central Gippsland.

Another returned soldier, Sydney Ryan Carns was the successful applicant.
