Parents: Cornelius and Letitia WALSH, born Box Hill, educated Graham Street SS. 279 Ross Street. He claimed to be 18 when he enlisted as a railway cleaner in August, 1915, but the circular returned by his mother suggested he was just 15 years and nine months. She returned the circular from Ross Street, a Mr Tucker, JP listed as a further reference at the same address. He is also shown as having been rejected in 1915 under the name Cornelius Cecil WALSH, perhaps his true age discovered on this earlier attempt to enlist.
