    His WW1 Attestation claimed he spent two years and nine months with the NSW Citizen’s Bushmen’s Contingent during the Boer War – this was a special unit raised from funds subscribed by the public and the only O’Brien listed was 474, Michael. Two years and nine months is also an unlikely – the entire South African war did not last that long!
