Comments

  1. Cheryl Griffin says:

Albert Victor Bergstrom, son of Frans Oscar Bergstrom and Catherine Unkles, was born in Port Melbourne in 1891, the year after his parents married. His father, a Swede from Gothenburg, arrived in Australia in the 1890s. His mother was born at Port Fairy.

By the time Albert Bergstrom enlisted in 1916, his family was living in Loch Street, Coburg. He had married Rosalind Gleeson in 1914 and he, his wife and infant son Albert Victor were living in West Melbourne.

He returned from the war in January 1919 with dilated action of the heart and a year later died at home, at 3 Anketell Street, Coburg. He was only 28.

Albert’s brothers Charley (DOW 1918), Oscar and Herbert also enlisted, as did his four Templeton cousins, all from Coburg.
